July 14 Roll Call & Time Limit Extended

by Charlotte Gann & Race Committee, July 14th, 2022

Well, there’s good news and bad news – except the bad news is good news... There’s an amendment to 6.3 of the Sailing Instructions – the time limit is now extended to 1000 HST on Tuesday, July 26.

Unfortunately, the Awards Banquet is fixed and will proceed on July 23 as planned.

The skies have become cloudy but last night Peligroso captured the perigee Buck Moon as they sailed under semi-darkness. Phoenix seems to be in altogether a different race – they report they’re completing their 51st Driftsure.

Wind – well – there isn’t much; requests for wind have come in from Red Sheilla (send wind), Xiomara (becalmed, a valiant crew dove to remove rope from the rudder), Flow (NO WIND!), Annie M (flat calm, not looking good). On the other hand, everyone is eating well. And at 1800 HST, much of the fleet is moving toward the trade winds soon.

Food & libations: Amun-Ra has a chef aboard who prepared osso buco for their half way party dinner and they’re still catching tuna (which means they’re sailing fast enough to do so cuz tuna typically don’t bite at slow speeds). Millennium Seagull now has experience in the Pacific High – asking shore support to save beer for them. Planet Express has Vern’s sashimi fuelling the crew – though it’s 32C inside the boat. New Haven is ummm, sort of glad they brought the BBQ.

Lost & found: Outbreak found a monster glass ball float! These are getting rarer so a great coup for the boat.

The YB Tracker has created a new page which shows the Vic-Maui and Pac Cup races on the same page; http://yb.tl/Pac-Vic22 in addition to the page for the Vic-Maui Race; https://www.vicmaui.org/tracker

Hurricane Darby is at 16.6N 140.9W and weakening, forecast to become a remnant by Saturday, but winds and rain may extend to the Big Island.

Roll Call July 14 at noon HST from the fleet:
