Vic-Maui Welcomes Beyond The Blue

by Event Committee , April 6th, 2021

In June of 2019, skipper David Zaharik and his wife Scarlet, departed Tréguier sailed into the English Channel to visit Jersey and Guernsey for an initial shakedown and then rounded the west coast of France sailing south across the Bay of Biscay to Spain, down the west coast of Portugal, around southern Spain to Gibraltar. From Gibraltar, in November 2019, they sailed to Lanzarote Canary Islands from where they departed to cross the Atlantic. 18.5 days later they cruised into Jolly Harbour, Antigua. In January 2020 they began island hopping;  Barbuda, St Barts, Sint Maarten, Saint Martin, St Thomas, Fajardo Puerto Rico for Mathew Town, Bahamas. While cruising north through the Bahamas news of a pandemic had David and Scarlet make haste to mainland USA before the boarders closed. They made it by three days and arranged to have Beyond the Blue complete her voyage to Vancouver on the top of a freighter arriving in May 2020. Immediately suggestions and hints were dropped that perhaps Beyond the Blue could continue her adventures by entering the Vic-Maui 2022.

A handpicked crew of dedicated experienced sailors, all with racing experience, including the Vic -Maui in previous years, should provide Beyond the Blue with an opportunity to strut her stuff and really see what she is capable of. Current plans are to enter the Cascadian Convoy this fall followed by the Pacific Northwest Offshore in the spring of 2022.

The Beyond the Blue team is looking forward to a safe, fast, fun and comfortable crossing to Maui!
