Kahuna First Across the Start Line and Cassiopeia in the Lead

It's almost the end of day one of the 20th Vic-Maui Race and what a day it has been! A beautiful day in Victoria and a picture perfect start saw Kahuna lead across the start line.
Many well-wishers and spectator boats came out to watch the start and the event has been receiving considerable media attention. Racers have faced brisk westerly inflow winds and a strong ebb tide until late this afternoon. According to latest reports,
Cassiopeia is in the lead being first boat down the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Cassiopeia rounded Duntze Light Buoy at 1802 hrs followed by Voodoo Child at 1919 hrs and Horizon and Renegade both rounding at 1934 hrs.
Black Watch returned to Victoria this afternoon shortly after 1700 hrs for treatment of sea sickness of some crew members. Black Watch is expected to rejoin the race within the next 24 hours.
