July 10 Roll Call & Fish-eating Grins

by Charlotte Gann & Race Committee, July 10th, 2022

Winds are steady now, seas are warming up, and the sound of 'Fish On' is being heard throughout the fleet. The boat speeds are perfect for teasing the blue fin tuna to come check out lures. The fleet will NOT go hungry. Planet Express is going tuna speed (see photo below) and Flow caught their first tuna - a 20-pounder!

With these fine winds, Millennium Seagull is going through squalls in steady winds - a sure sign of the trades. Amun-Ra had a run with a pod of dolphins - the dolphins won the sprint.

All onboard boat systems are functioning well, one boat's watermaker produces 19 gallons of water an hour and, when the engine is running, produces hot water. Contrast this with what was possible in 1965, during the first Vic-Maui, where few of our current marine mod cons existed.

On Xiomara (pronounced SEE-o-MA-ra), there's rock n roll from the seas and from the stereo. Annie M has her blue kite up, in case you see her out there, and she's seeing whales.

New Haven def has a first-world problem - the letter 'T' is sticking out of their keyboard. What - not J...?

Red Sheilla is incognito, thinking they can surreptitiously drive through the fleet without anyone noticing - Ha! Technology gives us a really good view of her whereabouts.

Peligroso is seeing 1/2 metre seas - perhaps they're creating them with their 12+ knot boat speeds.

In the next day or so, some of the fleet may cross paths with Pac Cup boats.

As you look through today's roll call, give Bruddah Iz a listen - especially the end. The peaceful sound of Hawaii and you'll feel the Aloha throughout.

Roll Call July 10 at noon HST from the fleet:
