Bedlam II, a C&C 41 Redline, is racing for the Vancouver Rowing Club and skippered by Alan (Al) Slater.  Built in 1968, Bedlam II was acquired by Al in 2011. Bedlam II has raced in multiple local races under both her previous and current owners, including many Swiftsure and Southern Straights races. Bedlam II participated in the Vic-Maui 1980; over 30 years later this will be the boat’s second Vic-Maui adventure.

This will be the first Vic-Maui experience for the crew members of Bedlam II. The crew is looking to involve the wider community in the adventure of sailing. They are using social media in the lead-up (boat website, blog, Twitter @svBedlam2) and will continue updating their followers through inReach and Twitter while on the way to Hawaii. “We want as many people as possible to join us as virtual crew on this trip,” states crew member John Johnstone.

Preparing for the 2014 Vic-Maui, Bedlam II has been racing in the VRC Polar Bear series and will sail in the Southern Straits and Swiftsure races. She was named the VRC Boat of the Year in 2012.

The crew is excited about this opportunity to bring Bedlam II back to Northwest Pacific offshore racing. Everyone agrees that they will be closer friends when they arrive in Maui than they were when they set sail. Sailing, planning, and learning together, mixed with midway events, inter-crew competition, and events in Victoria & Maui will help to solidify an adventure that will not be forgotten.

Crew: Alan Slater (skipper), Gary McKinnon, Gord Penner, John Johnstone, Kevin Trehearne, and Devin Jain.
