July 7 Roll Call and Whales, and Dolphins, and Sharks - Oh My!

by Charlotte Gann & Race Committee, July 7th, 2022

Heard from the boats that winds are still variable (see TWS today) and from many directions (TWD). The barometer is stubbornly steady. All crew are in fine spirits, Amun-Ra caught their first tuna and enjoyed an early lunch. Fog is now in the rearview, it’s all sun and seas are calm. Some contemplated going for a swim but sharks have been spotted so no swimming today. On Planet Express, yesterday’s fruit fly extravaganza was sorted through various methods, then a bird landed and gobbled up the bug detritus.

Flow experienced some squalls today which could be a sign the trades aren’t too much further ahead. Whales and dolphins are seen all around. Peligroso provided tonight’s fine view of a breaching whale and also shared their view last evening of exiting the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Spirits are high, the food is good, some are musing they may GAIN weight, they’re eating so well. It’s fine weather for cooking in the galley, not at all hot. That will come soon enough. Heard ‘Ready for the trades’. Aye, all are ready.

Roll Call at noon HST today from the fleet:
