Kinetic Vic-Maui 2010 Daily Report - 07-03-1200 PDT
by Gaylean Sutcliffe, July 4th, 2010
Kinetic friends:
At 1010 PDT on July 3, Kinetic started the Vic-Maui race off Victoria after several days of pre-start preparations at the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority's Causeway Docks. We had a great send-off, with boatloads of friends seeing us off. Under blue skies, we beat into the wind in a building Westerly to Race Passage, which we transited at 1130 at the same time that a pod of Killer Whales passed through going the other way. We thought that we could hear "marhenurh" as we passed. Surely a good omen!
Four boats that started two days ago are somewhere ahead of us, and four boats that started with us today are behind us. Eight miles done, two thousand three hundred or more miles to go. Ocean racing is a "marathon" activity in comparison to local races which are "sprints".
We are now breaking out the sunscreen.
Regards,
Team Kinetic.
