Sailing for the Vancouver Rowing Club and skippered by Gunnar Jonsson, Turicum is a C&C 44 built with balsa-cored fibreglass. Turicum has been actively racing for over fifteen years and has done countless local and distance races, including all three Vic-Maui Qualifying Races: the Van Isle 360, Swiftsure and Southern Straits. She has competed in six of the seven most recent Vic-Maui's and won her division in the 2008 race.

Gunnar, from New Westminster BC, sailed on Turicum's 2008 Vic-Maui crew and skippered her in 2010. Turicum will have an experienced blue-water crew, including five Vic-Maui veterans, drawn back to the race by the challenge of preparing boat and crew; the adventure of sailing more than 2,300 miles to beautiful Maui; and the teamwork that makes it all possible.

Gunnar comments “I am looking forward to racing to Maui again, with a great bunch of sailors, including two who sailed with me on Turicum in the 2010 race and others who crew with me on my SR33, Havoc. We look forward also to again being welcomed by the hospitality of the Lahaina Yacht Club and enjoying the Magic Isle as we regain our land legs.”
