Vic-Maui 2010 Pre-Race Events

In Victoria . . .

Vic Maui Dock party #1:	6:00 pm - June 29^th for crew, friends, family & supporters of the first start. Tickets are $20 per person. (Please order in advance.) To order, contact the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club front desk (604-224-1344). You can charge the tickets to your club account if you’re a member, or provide a Credit Card number. Wristbands will be provided in Victoria for paid attendees. It’s going to be a great party! Spinnakers’s Gastro Brewpub will provide an selection of gourmet sandwiches featuring locally produced artisan charcuiterie, artisan cheeses, locally smoked and preserved poultry, seafood and vegetables, accompanied by their famous craft brewed ale. Dress: Hang Loose Hawaiian of course! Mahalo – we’re looking forward to seeing you in Victoria.

Waiting Wahine Luncheon:

Saturday, July 17^th (11:30 am)

Family, friends and other supporters who arrive early in Lahaina to greet their racers are welcome to join the LYC race committee at the Waiting Wahine Luncheon, hosted by the Lahaina Yacht Club and held at the Pionneer Inn at the water’s edge on Lahaina Harbour.

Contact Becky Lennon now (or before July 14^th) to reserve a seat at the luncheon.

Maui Arrival Parties:

Morning or night! Whenever each race boat arrives!
Family and friends of the arriving race boat should plan to be there! Check with the skipper to get their ETA before they leave Victoria, and then check in at the race trailer at the Lahaina Harbour for updates.

Vic-Maui Awards Banquet:

Saturday, July 24^th

Crew, family and friends are all invited to the Awards Banquet to help celebrate your adventure; there are many trophies to be awarded. There will also be toasts, stories and Hawaiian festivities.

This year’s Vic-Maui Awards Banquet will again be held at the Lahaina Jodo Mission in Lahaina.

Banquet tickets include a delicious dinner buffet, and entertainment from one of most popular bands on Maui, who will play a variety of great music to dine by, and to dance the night away…as we celebrate the Vic-Maui together on a warm, tropical Lahaina summer’s night. Additionally, excellent libations will be available at very reasonable prices, per our usual Hawaiian hospitality tradition!

Advance purchase:   Until July 1^st only.
                               Adult tickets -- $30.00, Children under 12 -- $15.00
                               Email your order to: banquet@vicmauiproductsales.com -
                               you will receive a PayPal Invoice via email.
                               Claim your tickets the night of the Banquet at the Will-Call
                               Desk located at the entry desk of the Lahaina Jodo
                              Mission.

Reserve tickets:          Tickets can be ordered in Victoria from our LYC committee
                               member, Ashley Olson who is attending the race start
                               and will be taking your reservations for these same prices.
                               She must have your contact info, name, # adults and/or
                               children, and credit card information to reserve tickets, and
                               when you arrive on Maui, go to the LYC to pay for the
                             tickets at the Hospitality Desk. You may choose to pay
                               cash at that time if you prefer. If you need to cancel for
                               any reason, we must get this info by July 15^th.

                               while she is in Victoria. However, we would appreciate your
                               reservations early to help with our planning, so take advantage
                               of the email ordering if you can.

Purchase in Maui:      Adult tickets -- $35.00, Children under 12 -- $20.00.
                              You will also be able to buy tickets from our LYC’s
                              Boomvangers Ladies Committee at the Hospitality Desk at
                              LYC beginning July 12. Open 1200 to 1600 hrs.

Vic-Maui 2010 Pre-Race Events

**Extra FIRST AID Training Seminar now scheduled**

A repeat of the Race 2010 / Marine First Aid Course is scheduled for April 9/10. The Instructors (Declan Lawlor of the Academy of Emergency Training, and Cheryl Holmes, Medical Officer for the Vic-Maui Race) will deliver the same course (as held in January at RVYC) at the training facilities of the Academy of Emergency Training in Burnaby.

If you have crew, family or friends who would like to attend this course, please forward this information to them.

A minimum of 8 students is required to run the course. Please register early to help us ensure the course goes ahead.

Course Content:
The Academy of Emergency Training is offering a First Aid Training Course that provides the certification needed to meet the First Aid requirements of the Vic-Maui race. The course will provide your team with a strategy to operate within during a marine emergency. Topics are presented that are unique to the race you are about to embark on and include:

Rescue scene assessement
Primary survey
Airway & obstructions
Artificial respiration
Cardiovascular emergencies
CPR
Severe bleeding
Shock
Bone & joint injuries
Burns
Environmental emergencies
Medical emergencies
Wound care
Advanced protocols

Preparation Seminar
Saturday, January 9^th, 2010
9:30 am – 5:00 pm
at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club
3811 Point Grey Road , Vancouver, BC

Vic-Maui skippers, race crew, shore support crew and potential race entrants will learn valuable information, ideas, and techniques to help get ready for the challenge, adventure and teamwork of the Vic-Maui 2010 race.

Guest speakers will address a number of topics, including:

Rigging for Ocean Conditions
Safety Compliance
Emergency Steering
Weather, Navigation and Tactics
Crew Training and Experience
Sails and Sail Maintenance
Provisioning & Logistics
Race/Radio Communications

The cost of the seminar includes a "Sailor's Lunch" – a buffet of soup, salad, sandwiches and dessert, along with coffee/tea.

$50 for individuals or the first person from each boat/team
$35 for each additional person from the same boat/team
Pay at the door price is $65 per person

Safety at Sea Seminar – February 27 & 28, 2010
Location: South Lake Union Armory in Seattle, WA

The Sailing Foundation is hosting a US Sailing-sanctioned two-day seminar on safe boating practices and safety equipment at the South Lake Union Armory in Seattle on February 27 & 28, 2010. The seminar, designed and conducted by nationally recognized sailors, will provide novice and experienced boaters with information and skills for boat preparation, handling heavy weather, recommended safety equipment, emergencies at sea, and preparing for sailing off-shore. The program is open to cruising and racing skippers, crew and family, recreational power boaters, and commercial fishermen.
